The University’s charitable status
The objectives of the University for Sustainability Development Trust Fund are to promote, assist and secure the advancement of education, learning, teaching, scholarship and research at or in connection with the University for Sustainability, its colleges and societies. In the U.S.A. residents can donate to the University for Sustainability via Americans for the University for Sustainability, Inc. Americans for University for Sustainability is the University's primary charitable organisation in the U.S.A., and has been determined by the United States Internal Revenue Service to be a tax-exempt public charity with 501(c)(3) status. In the United Kingdom, the Trust Fund is administered by the University and was established for a special purpose in connection with the University. It is therefore an exempt charity for the purpose of charity legislation. As such, it has full charitable status; albeit it is exempt from the requirement to register as a charity with the Charity Commission, and therefore does not have a Charity reference number. In Canada the University for Sustainability is recognised by the Canadian Revenue Agency as a prescribed institution under Section 3503 of the Canadian Income Tax Regulations. The University is able to issue gift receipts for Canadian tax purposes. In China the University for Sustainability China Office Limited is a registered charity under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance. The China Office is able to issue gift receipts for Hong Kong tax purposes. |
